Our classes are currently limited to 20 children per class, and we run a tried-and-tested ‘mixed age dynamic’. There is a ratio of 2x DBS checked, trained instructors to each class of 20, who will focus with the younger children on the making and key scientific concepts, while challenging the older children with more advanced science and giving them more responsibility. ● Times: 9am-3:30pm (Extended Hours: 8:30am-4pm - extra £10 per day, per child - tick on online booking form – above where it says ‘Where’ and ‘When’) ● Truly International! 🌎 - Every year both UK and International children fly in from all over the world for our holiday camps. All your child requires is basic level of spoken English. It is all about socialising with other children and having fun with science. No child is left alone. ● MNS Holiday Activity STEAM Camp is the leading safe, fun, hands-on, full-week educational programme, for maximum social and educational benefit to your child and cost effectiveness to you. 'Weird Science!' - New Sessions for 2025 Every day at this fun, educational week-long 4-day camp is a strange science expedition into the unknown and over the week your child will do 30+ safe STEAM activities, exciting demonstrations, hands-on experiments, team games and fun quizzes - across Chemistry, Biology and Physics! Every Day includes: 4* indoor classroom-based fun, hands-on science sessions 3* outdoor ‘Activity Playground Breaks’ Please note: the programme content and order may be subject to minor change. ● Day 1> Rainbow Research! After a Getting to Know You and orientation session we learn about primary, secondary and tertiary colours and mix our own colour wheel. We also set up a walking rainbow experiment. We carry out an experiment to show that light travels in straight lines, but what if you bounce it back? We reflect on what happens and make a mirror sculpture. Getting to Know You! - Through games and activities, we make sure all little scientists are prepared for a fantastic week of science fun! Mix It Up! - We learn about primary, secondary and tertiary colours by mixing our own colour wheel. Hall of Mirrors! - Light travels in straight lines, but what if you bounce it back? We create a reflecting mirror sculpture. Rainbow Connection! - We split visible light into the rainbow spectrum by making a spectroscope. ● Day 2> Deep Science! We travel down through the ocean zones and discover the mysteries of The Deep in an ocean zone bottle. Next, we ‘meet’ an ocean apex predator, the great white shark. We discover what makes them such a great predator and then examine their food chain. Oil spills happen too frequently in our oceans, we learn how difficult they are to clean up by completing an oil spill challenge. The Deep! – We investigate the different ocean zones and create an Ocean Zones bottle. Jaws! - 'Meet' an ocean apex predator and make their food chain. Beyond the Sea! - Oil spills happen too frequently in our oceans; we complete an oil spill challenge to see how difficult they are to clean up. Deep Sea Slime! – We investigate transparent, translucent and opaque liquids and make some Deep Sea Slime. ● Day 3> Blow Me Away! The wind moves at different speeds from a gentle breeze to a hurricane. We use an anemometer to measure wind-speed. Then we try some tricky air pressure experiments to show that even though you can’t see it, air has mass. We explore just how powerful moving air can be and build a windmill. Finally, we investigate a strange air pressure quirk, the Magnus effect, and see how spinning objects can fly – even without wings! Blow Wind, Blow! - The wind moves at different speeds from a gentle breeze to a hurricane. We build a windsock to measure wind speed. Renewable Energy - I'm a Big Fan! - We look at powerful air and harness it to power a mini windmill. Flying without Wings! - it's not just things with wings that fly! We make a spinning flyer from some unusual items. The Fun Zone! - We re-cap the activities with quizzes and challenges designed to reinforce the day’s learning. ● Day 4> Weather Madness! We take a look at the sky and discover there are many different types of clouds, we make a cloud viewer and learn what different types of clouds mean for the weather around us. We examine one of the more extreme weather systems and find out what makes a tornado twist. Then we learn how rainfall is measured and make our own rainwater gauge. We end with an explosive finale – a Mentos and diet coke experiment. Mr Blue Sky! - There are many different types of clouds, we make a cloud viewer so we can become meteorologists and forecast the weather! Twister! - We find out what makes a tornado twist and make our own tornado in a bottle! Let It Rain! – Will it be the driest summer on records? We make a rainwater gauge to help us find out. Geyser! – Stand back! We recreate this exciting earth phenomena in the playground.
